Say What?!?!

Things that were said to me this week and I am not making this up, as if this weren't already the suckiest suck-fest experience we have ever been through.

1- It will all be fine, if you say you are a Christian then you should know that.

2- Maybe you'll get pregnant while you are waiting

And the winner is....

3- You could give up the "referral" and try your luck in a different region. (Isn't that mentality what got us into this mess in the first place, Ms. Torry Hansen? That these precious children are like library books that can be returned or a pair of jeans that makes your butt look fat after you leave the store? Hello?)

AND JUST THINK IT'S ONLY TUESDAY. yipee.

  1. I am sure these things were said by people who aren't adopting who have no idea how it feels to be in our shoes. I know how you feel some people have said them to me. You just have to be strong and ignore it even though its hard. People just don't understand and they are not educated enough about it. You be strong and stay positive and everything will work out.Plus you have all of your blogging friends to help you get through this.Sending hugs!!!!!!!!!!;-)))))

  3. I still can't believe what was said about changing regions. Don't they know Charlie is already a resident of our hearts! Next step he will be a resident in a home that will have the best parents ever and will be love beyond belief! Some times you just have to turn a "deaf ear" to insensitive people.

  4. I am sorry that you have heard these painful things this week. God sees. I am sure His heart breaks over what has taken place to put your adoption on hold. His will IS for your son to be in your arms today...we will keep praying that mountains will be moved in order to make that happen.

  5. Ugh! Sorry you've had to hear that already this week. I think most people really have no clue what they are saying is actually offensive.

Wait until you get home with your son and someone says, "He looks like he could be yours." No kidding, a neighbor actually said that to me while I was walking our son in the stroller when we first got home. I probably should have said, he is mine, but I just smiled and said hi.

  6. Praying for you....
not only that the court date will happen sooner rather than later but also that you have the patience to deal with the comments made by people who have no idea what the real world of adoption is like!

  7. Oh my goodness! I'm furious for you. Furious... What is wrong with people? I'm sorry. Hang in there.

  8. I understand your frustrations. The thing that I have to remind myself of, is before we started researching and educating ourselves on adoption- I would have probably (ignorantly) made comments like these too. I just don't think people fully understand the process of adoption and how very different, yet very similiar it is to the "traditioinal" pursuit of a family... just show 'em grace- they know not what they do.

  9. "the suckiest suck-fest"....YES, worded perfectly!!!! Agree whole-heartedly. We know our sweet children are worth all this, that there are actual little people we are during this for and we will be blessed when they are in our lives and families.....we know this, even if others just don't get it.

  10. People are stupid- but you are a reasonable human being, so you should know that (if you can't read the sarcasm in that, let me reiterate- this is dripping with it!) Sorry people are stupid. ;) I love you, and I LOVE Charlie's bed! Go Chad

  11. Hi Sarah,

It will come quicker than you think. Things are moving, all be it a bit slower in some regions. We had our court date on Friday with a positive outcome, and return on Sunday to pick up our daughter. Hang in there!

  12. Ugh. People should just keep their lips sealed if they don't know what to say that is comforting.

  13. Those comments are so sad... people are just ignorant! If I had a dollar for everytime someone told me I'd probaby get pregnant once Clara Jane got home, I would be rich :(

Hang in there; I know I know, nothing anyone can say will help you right now. I am praying for your family!

Now every time I see a robot I think of Charlie :)

  14. Your people must be talking to my people. Here is my current favorite comment... "I was watching The View the other day and they were talking all about adoption. Did you know you can adopt from the foster care system for free and your Russian adoption is going to cost $40,000 or more. Just a thought for you!"

Yeah, not really the support we are looking for.

I remember reading reading books that warned of these kinds of comments, but I thought "my friend/family...no." WRONG!!!

  16. I admire your honesty, and will just keep on praying. There are never the right words to say...so when that happens, we should just keep our mouths shut. Hang in there...you have lots of people praying for you and your little one!
